I am far from perfect. Thus, after every short break, I'll reward myself with another long break, reducing the amount of time I should've spent on medicine. I am easily distracted and I easily get bored, though at times I really hoped that these traits would fade away.
Anyhow. I'd like to write about what I felt throughout 3rd year of medical school.
Our first posting was Surgery. Or should I write it as 'THE' Surgery? It was all vague and new and no one was there to help us find the light. We had weeks of indefiniteness, and adaptation to clinical years made me lose some weight; making me look much more undernourished than I already was. Undeniably, the lecturers were very informative despite our confusion and lack of knowledge. But in some ways, I do hope that the next Surgery posting would be more welcoming and interesting. Or it may be because I don't really like this particular subject. As of now la.
Our very next posting is Obstetric & Gynaecology woohoo. This department might win my heart all year long. The schedule, the lecturers, the patients, the USGs, those tiny hands, fingers and all made me fall in love. Not to mention the less-stress environment making it all seem that medicine is as interesting as I've imagined. You guys should actually observe how the doctors respect, care and treat the patients; it was heart-warming and just lovable. After seeing all their hardwork, I questioned myself. Would I be able to treat my future patients with so much love and care as if I have the most unhectic schedule like my teachers? (Hidden message: Do treat your doctors with the amount of respect and care you'd like to receive as a return :))
The third posting of the year goes to Paediatrics. Phewww. What a posting! It was packed with clinics and tutorials and the second half of the posting was in Summer and Ramzan. Impossibly possible but alhamdulillah we made it. Needless to say, when we were surrounded by children-engaging sifus, there was not even once that we weren't amazed. The fact is that, it is quite easy to engage with healthy children but we wouldn't find such in the wards right? And most of the time they were cranky but the masters (who were strangers to the children) have never failed to gain their transient trust huhu. MasyaAllah. I've never forget this wonderful posting till date.
And the last major posting for 3rd year is Internal Medicine. We started with so much anticipation since all the previous postings asked us the same question. "Have you been in medicine posting?" Huhu. Am still struggling with all the thick books and inability to expect what is to come, but this posting too is coming to an end. Let's just pray that all will be well. Till our next post, assalamualaikum :)
